Pacaya Volcano is the most active volcano in Guatemala, it’s 2500 mts. above the sea, the environment is formed by humid forest and rocks. It has impressive views of the lagoon of Calderas and other three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. Pacaya Volcano is readily accessible. You will visit the border of the base within the main cone to see the lava eruption if active. It is a complete adventure in only one day. Walk of ascent 2 1/2 hrs. You can also make the ascent by horse, it´s one of the best adventure experiences in Guatemala.

Upon arrival to San Vicente Pacaya where the walk of ascent will begin, the view of the lagoon of Calderas where you will have the oportunity to have a nice view of the Agua, Fuego and Acatenango Volcanoes. After a nice walk through volcanic sand paths with great views of the volcanoes and unique vegetation, you´ll arrive to the plateau where you can see the main crater of the volcanoe. We won´t visit the crater of the volcano for security reasons but you will see the lava (if active) and some steam baths created by the heat of the Pacaya Volcanoe. We will try to reach the lava to take a close look if available.
